Veteran Odisha Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray has been expelled from the party for six years due to allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities. The decision came after Routray openly supported his son, Manmath Routray, who is contesting as a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency.
Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal announced the expulsion, citing complaints of indiscipline against Routray. Despite issuing a show cause notice, Routray’s support for his son’s BJD candidacy led to his expulsion.
Routray, a six-time MLA known for his humorous remarks, denied campaigning for the BJD but was frequently seen alongside his son during public functions. His role in campaigning holds significance, potentially impacting the electoral prospects of Aparajita Sarangi, the BJP candidate for Bhubaneswar.
