Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary has emerged as a premier eco-tourism destination, achieving a remarkable milestone by generating a revenue of Rs 3.45 crore from tourism activities in the fiscal year 2023-24. With a footfall of 70,000 tourists, including visitors from Odisha, West Bengal, other Indian states, and foreigners, the sanctuary’s popularity has soared. Moreover, the active involvement of 87 local families in maintaining eco-tourism cottages within the sanctuary exemplifies robust community engagement in tourism management. Managed by the local community, including the operation of 14 night stay cottages, the success of Debrigarh reflects the symbiotic relationship between tourism and conservation efforts. Notably, the sanctuary has implemented eco-friendly initiatives, such as banning single-use plastics and adopting sustainable practices. These efforts, coupled with measures to ensure visitor safety and engagement, exemplify Debrigarh’s commitment to environmental preservation and responsible tourism management.
