Pabitra Sahu, representing India and Odisha, achieved historic success by winning a silver medal in the men’s sabre event at the 2024 Wheelchair Fencing Under-23 World Championships in Thailand. Despite leading 13-9 in the final, Sahu narrowly lost 14-15, settling for silver behind Germany’s Clemens Cursiefen. Sahu dominated throughout the tournament, winning all matches in Pool A and securing victory in the semifinals with a 15-5 triumph over Thai opponent Phoopa Sae-Sim. The BJB Autonomous College student earned his spot in the championships by excelling in national competitions, accumulating 10 medals, including golds, silvers, and a bronze over consecutive years.
