IT IS SAD THAT THIS MESMERIZING BESHA OF THE LORD WAS LAST SEEN ALMOST 100 YEARS BACK AND IS NO LONGER HELD AT SRI MANDIRA. WHO IS TO BLAME?
The Raghunath Besha, a royal attire observed in the month of Chaitra (March-April), has been absent for a century. During this event, Lord Shree Jagannatha is adorned as Shree Rama, wielding a bow and arrow. Figures crafted from wooden twigs and solapith are showcased on the Ratnasinghashan. This Besha pays homage to Shree Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The discontinuation of this traditional attire for a century marks a significant departure from past practices, highlighting the cultural shifts over time.
