As Odisha battles a scorching heatwave, Public Health Director Dr. Niranjan Mishra confirms 89 cases of sunstroke and heat-related illnesses across 16 districts. Sundargarh records the highest with 41 cases, while Khordha and Angul report a dozen and nine cases, respectively. Seven individuals from Khordha are hospitalized in Bhubaneswar’s Capital Hospital. Mishra reveals a single fatality due to sunstroke, with allegations of more deaths under investigation. While the Health Department awaits confirmation, Mishra stresses the need for post-mortem reports to ascertain causes of death accurately. Amid rising temperatures, vigilance and precautionary measures are urged to mitigate heat-related risks in the state.
