WE CAN FINALLY SAY GOODBYE TO MICRO PLASTICS!! IISc BENGALURU RESEARCHERS DEVELOP HYDROGEL TO REMOVE MICRO PLASTICS FROM WATER. READ CAPTION TO KNOW THE DETAILS

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru have engineered a groundbreaking hydrogel aimed at tackling the pervasive issue of microplastic contamination in water bodies. This innovative hydrogel, formulated from a blend of three polymers, boasts a unique structure capable of both trapping and degrading microplastics present in water. Unlike conventional filtration methods, which merely capture microplastics, this hydrogel offers a sustainable solution by utilizing ultraviolet (UV) light to degrade the contaminants. Tests have demonstrated its remarkable efficiency, removing up to 95% of certain microplastic variants from water, while also showcasing potential for repurposing into carbon nanomaterials for heavy metal removal.
